news groups and education |
- Whitecap Windsurfing, Augusta, GA. Club member Chuck Hardin offers instruction
- Southwind Sailboarding ABC member Chris Pyron offers instruction in the Atlanta area. Or call 404-525-7190 or 404-784-0287
- Other clinics, schools:
- Boards (UK) First time to windsurfing? page. Answers all those questions you tend to ask the first time around.
- rec.windsurfing the windsurfing message board. This is a great spot to read or post gossip, questions, comments and intelligent discourse about all aspects of the sport. If you have trouble connecting to the usenet via your newsreader, try google.com usenet access. Not quite as handy ...
- Before you post a question on rec.windsurfing, try Google's Newsgroup Search, a Usenet archival service. Someone is likely to have had the same question even just month ago. This is a great site to look up old newsgroup posts.
- rec.windsurfing FAQs Have a question about boards, technique or repairs? Check here, there's a fair amount of collected wisdom when you can't ask the local aces.
- If your ISP doesn't carry newsgroups or rec.windsurfing on their newsgroup server, try University of Berlin Newsgroup sign-up. Don't worry, there are instructions in English.
- Searchable Archive of the Windsurfer's Mailing List (email list). Collected posts since 1994 of this elist that has an international audience.
- Brian Caserio's Side-Off Video. Distributor of the unrivalled Peter Hart Videos. If you can't get/afford proper instruction, these are the videos to get. Period. Funny, informative and crammed with good how-tos.
- AWIA Instruction and Information Page
- Learn to Windsurf A nice site put together for those dying to learn but without an instructor or good video handy. Steps you through the basic process.
- Windsurfing Dictionary our first Flemish (or is Mr. Wouter Dobbelaere a Walloon?) site
- Rig your sail right: Instructions from Bruce Peterson of Sailworks. While these are for a specific brand, the techniques apply generally. Choose according to the type of sail you have.
- Another good rigging tutorial, courtesy of Windwind and Bill Hansen
- Gaastra Forums (includes "Ask Barry Spanier") Lots of good advice about sails, racing and more, of course, focused on Gaastra products.
- Two good mast resources that explain what you need to know about picking the right mast for your sails: Boards Mag Mast Page | Windwing Bill Hansen explains MCS and IMCS. If you don't know which mast is the correct one, try Fiberspar's site. They show the recommended masts for most sails produced since the early/mid 90's. (And there really isn't any reason to own anything older.)
- Windsurfing Instruction Links Nice page which has links to various sites on the web that offer tips/instruction for a particular skill
- Cold Weather Sailing Stig Johansen (N-16) tells how to do it where it's REALLY cold. Yes, if they can keep warm sailing in Norway, you can on Lanier. Check out his home page, too.
- Wow... Always wanted to do a forward loop but didn't know how? Pro wave sailor Chris Calthrop steps you through complete with text and video. Lots of fun.
- Now that you've got the forwards down, are you ready for Backwards loops?
- Another for the DYI crowd. This site has drawings along with the text to step you through the basics.
- History of Windsurfing
- Essential Fin info (shape, size, spinouts and more), courtesy of the Torquay Fin Co. of Australia.
- Windsurfing Equipment Tips for Beginners, courtesy of Dave Marshall of Apex Windsurfing and the Triangle Boardsailing Club
- Windsurfing Basics by Jerry McEwen of the Nashville club.
- Marc Lefebvre's Windsurfing Technique Forum contains a number of useful "how to" articles
- Instruction from Canada's Windsport Magazine
- Josh Stone.com Pro Wavesailor Josh Stone displays a variety of freestyle moves including "The back side forward, The Off the lip, the Aerial, the One handed Spock, the Tabletop, the Pushloop, the Forwardloop, Backloop, Forward Off the Lip, Spock and the Willy skipper..."
- Windsurf Freestyle's Photo How-tos. Even if you can't read German (there is a bit of English on the site, too), these photo sequences of freestyle moves, many, if not most done on shortboards, will help you go beyong the ol' back'n'forth. Veryyy cool.
- Boards (UK) forums. Forums (message boards) on Equipment, Travel Forum, Technique, Women-specific windsurfing issues
